IWD with Alex & Meena
Every year on the 8th March is International Women’s Day – a day to celebrate the achievements of women, reflect on the progress that has been made towards gender equality and to recognise the work that still needs to be done.
We are so proud to say that we have some of the most incredible women in our Accounts, Projects and Sales team at Dalys. All of these women play a huge part in the growth of our business and we wouldn’t be where we are without them!
In the blog we will be sharing interviews with two of these amazing women in our team; Alex and Meena.
Read on below to hear about Alex & Meena’s experience as a woman and at Daly Systems
Tell us a bit about yourself…
Alex: Hi, I’m Alex Daly, an Account Manager at Dalys! I’ve been in the industry, and working at Dalys, for the last 10 years. Throughout those 10 years, I have worked in different areas of the business, however, have been settled in my current role for the last 6 years 😊
Meena: I’m Meena and I’m the accounts assistant at Daly Systems. I have been at Dalys for just over 9 years.
What is your proudest achievement whilst working at Daly Systems?
Alex: Finding a job that I love, that doesn’t feel like I’m “going to work” is my biggest achievement to date. I get to meet lots of lovely people and new faces on a daily basis. I have also made so many great friends along the way.
Meena: My biggest achievement is helping to provide structure to the finance team. Moving from paper-based accounting to online accounting took a lot of time and dedication. I am proud to have played my part in this!
As a woman, what are the biggest challenges you have overcome to fulfil your role?
Alex: For me personally, I have never faced any direct challenges, despite the fact our industry is very male dominated.
Meena: When I first joined, working within a male dominated industry is always a challenge and worked hard to gain their respect. I did my job and proved that I can do my job well and carry on! It definitely worked!
Which Woman inspires you the most?
Meena: My mum has inspired me as she got married at a very young age and worked hard alongside my dad to run a successful Indian sweet/snack shop.
Mum has taught me to cook at a very young age of 10 and work hard to earn a living. This is why my colleagues love my cooking.
What is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?
Alex: Do whatever makes you happy and follow your passion. It’s so important to enjoy your job, don’t ever let “gender stereotype roles” stop you from pushing boundaries and doing what you love!
Meena: Find a career which you enjoy and gives you challenges which you can look forward to – if you aren’t happy find something that you are happy in and you should always live a happy life!
Big thanks to Meena for sharing her experiences with us! Come back to our socials tomorrow for part 2 of International Womens Day with Alex
